Animal Portraits
True to Life
Working from photographs in my studio, I do like to meet the animal when possible and will take my own selection of reference photos. Portraits can be of just one animal or several can be combined into one painting. I take about 3 weeks to complete a portrait but Christmas orders need to be in by the middle of November.Pencils - either black and white or coloured pencil drawings on paper, mounted ready to frame. Background is usually blank, but you can discuss your requirements.
Watercolour - a very detailed portrait on watercolour paper with a landscape background or you can choose a specific background and provide reference material. Mounted ready to frame.
Chalk Pastels - a larger, soft image on paper. Generally not mounted due to size, lightly "fixed" but care must be taken when handling to avoid smudging so immediate framing recommended.
Acrylic Paint - in the style of oil paints either on stretched canvas, canvas board or paper. Paper portraits will be mounted ready to frame.
"Inspired By ..."
This is a new range of commissioned animal portraits that I am offering as a change to the True to Life portraits. The "Inspired By ..." range encourages you to consider the works of your favourite artists, to decide which styles of work and which settings you prefer. We can then discuss this and, working from photos I will produce a unique painting on canvas. Artists whose work have "inspired" me so far include David Hockney, Franz Marc, Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gogh. ÊI love to add a touch of humor to my work - a Bull Terrier casting a long shadow by the side of a hilltop Hockney style swimming pool, a Wiemariner gazing across Van Gogh's starry skies or even a siamese cat in a rather extreme cubist style - the viewer can not help but smile. Bespoke paintings are about providing the you with exactly what you want and, if you like the works of a particular famous, but unavailable artist I will do my best to produce a portrait in that style.
